INTRODUCTION Good Samaritan Centre is non- profit organization initiated on 2001under the umbrella of Tanzania Women and Youth Development society (TWYDS) by formed the group of six members. The primary purpose of the organization is to create programs that support marginilized groups such as children, youth, women and elderly people. The objective is to improve performance of orphans and vulnerable children in schools Since the government introduced Education for all and the declaration of the International organization like millenium development goal, if you look in the book of convention on the rights of the child which adopted on 20 NOV 1989 read on part 1 (Rights and welfare of the child), article 11 also it speaks about Education (UNCRC 1990) As the govermemt has built, pre classes in Tanzania but still there are not enough classes to accommodate students. Also at the community level still children are not going to school especially orphans and many of their parents died because of HIV/AIDS Also we realized that OVCs at starting primary school, they start before getting pre- nursery studies

Our microgranting plan - an update

Who We Are

• Very small private charitable foundation in London
• Interest in OVC issues in subSaharan Africa
• No staff, but strong willingness to travel, site visit and work with local partners
• Web literate and comfortable with cellphones, email, spreadsheets, etc

Here's a summary of our plans.

A kick-start in Tanzania

Talked to Susan Monaghan, USAid Tanzania. She said:

Tanzania has 120 districts; 1.9m orphans
PACT started with 5 districts at a time through global fund
through us in 5 districts
I’m not sure these things get operational fast enough
Cd be that might be way to do some pilot
Issue is getting money fast into hands of people who need it
Different from way global fund or usaid
2 districts in dar where has already begun
interested inworking in place where up and running?
Unicef has worked in 20 districts in past; where set up a lot of mechanism that shd address needs of OVCs. But don’t have the cash to get to this infrastructure to help them get work under way. Money into hands of small ngos that need to be funded to do the work. Possible route? We work pretty closely with them.
Another possibility: Not sure whether want to deal with PACT.

Rapid funding envelope – deal with other donors
With 60 days, we advertise availability of funds, up to $200,000 that we provide
Tell them we are entertaining ideas; they send that in (paragraph), we let them know if should send something further (inc budget, work plan)
Two month decision is made and grants are awarded
That’s excited because we end up seeing hwole different tier of orgs we ever see coming through here.
Could check with folks at Rapid Funding Envelope to see if orgs have come to them but aren’t quite there.
We still have a $20K threshold; have to have handled that. We are thinking of getting rid of that with next round, but until now, any applicant must have track record of that.

Talked to Global Fund; they would see if cd find some money for small organizations. We could with Unicef find 1 or 2 districts.

Possible Deloitte person could help find good potential grantees.
