REPORT OF NETWORK MEETING OF 26TH August, 2006: VENUE: CARE
* The meeting started with registrations around 9:00 am as usual. The members managed to arrive at the CARE early and by 9:00 am three quarters of the members were already in the meeting room.

* Two topics were presented namely: 1. Impact of HIV/AIDS on the Economic groups (by Verdi Mushema), which was not well presented according to the members views, and they urged the chairperson to be carefully in selecting the good presenters. 2. Sexually Transmitted Infections (By Dr. Nyirabu Kitano), which was very educative and very well presented. This was done replacing the chance of Economic Empowerment to OVCs care takers, which was planned to done in the next meeting due to unclear communication with the presenter.

1. Shabani Madega (who got 7 votes out of 21)
2. Mary Mabhaya (Who got 1 vote out of 21)
3. Furaha Dimitrios (who got 13 votes out of 21)
The electoral committee led by Hatibu Kunga announced Mr. Furaha Dimitrios to be the chairperson after defeating the rest and getting votes more than half of the total 21 votes of the members who were present and legible to vote.

Other reports:
The documents that you sent me to be translated and read in this meeting were done as suggested. They were read in the meeting and the following were the responses:
-they have agreed that the officers should not be paid but given allowances apart from claiming their disbursement of the expenses used for preparing network materials. This was reached due to the many obligations that pertain to them, that they stop their responsibilities by spending more time for the network activities. They also have to attend each meeting without being represented due to their administrative tasks. Hence the members agreed with one heart without any blame that they really deserve allowances with regard to their handwork in order to make them more efficient and effective to their entrusted responsibilities by the network.
-concerning donation, they said He deserved to be paid due to his important role in serving the network assisting the officers. “He also deserves to have the Honorary membership in the network at all if we are to consider so, per our, to be registered constitution”, one member commented. There is no doubt that what he does every body sees as the connective organ between the network officers and the Foundation members in London.
-About Bank statements to be check in every monthly meeting holds more water for ensuring transparency and accountability among the members.
-about registering the network, they see it very useful and important that its delay raises a lot of concerns among the members. The responsible committee selected for making follow ups showed hopes that by 29th august, the certificate of the registered network as an NGO will be due. There were some bureaucratic problems in the office for registration.
-about expenditure of fund, they said, they needed more time to go through it carefully and with hope they will either respond to you directly or discuss in the next meeting. I will make all the original and translated copies available to all the groups through the groups’ mail soon. This was due to time limit with regard to the many items dealt.
-they congratulated the retired Chairperson for her appointment by the government to be the DC. They also thanked her very much for her dedication to the network amidst challenging environment. Thanks were also due to Pascal, Yovita and donation for a wonderful cooperative moment in serving the network acknowledging your thank you words.
-in a special moment, they never forgot your invaluable contribution towards maintaining the network and propagating its prosperity towards the better future of the Tanzanian society. Your recognition on the groups’ efforts in serving the society impacts positively in our daring to extend our dedication to the OVCs and MOVCs.
-A big thank you goes to the Foundation for reconsidering our useful efforts and dare to set aside another $1000 for the 2007 grant prior fulfilling the fund agreement. We thank you so much and we promise to disburse in accordance with the targeted objectives (serving the OVCs).
Thanks,
Hoping to meet you by December,
The network members,
African communities in Dar.
