The tool, which consists of a set of multiple-choice questions, aims to produce a quantitative measure of the maturity of community organizations. It's organized into eight categories, and delivers a score to each community organization in each of the categories. Tawosu's average scores (between 0 and 3) in 2006 and 2007 were as follows: Governance: 2.4 (2006), 2.5(2007) Finances: 2.5(2006), 1.8 (2007) Human Resources: 2.6 (2006), 2.7 (2007) Admininistration: 2.7 (2006), 2.0 (2007) Service Delivery: 2.5 (2006), 2.3 (2007) Community Ownership: 3.0 (2006), 2.5 (2007) Financial Support: 2.0 (2006), 3.0 (2007) Tech Support: 2.0 (2006), 3.0 (2007) Total: 74 (2006), 57 (2007) CCAT ranking among 28 groups in Dar network: 18 (2006); 19 (2007) Note: A ranking of one means the highest among the cohort. A ranking of 28 means the lowest. If two groups tie in first place, the next group is ranked as 3, and so on. A DIV error indicates that the group's responses were not recorded on the questionnaire. __________________________________________ Budget and other funders Tawosu gave us the following budget information in 2007: Total funding from all sources in USD: $100 (2006); $27,967 (2007); $9,906 (2008 forecast) Percentage of total 2007 funding provided by AfricanCommunities.org: 4% Other sources of funding: RFA; FCS; Vodacom Foundation. Note: a zero means that there were no other sources of funding. __________________________________________ Network participation During 2006, 2007 and part of 2008, Tawosu took part in activities of Afconet, an NGO in Dar es Salaam which provided monthly training and exchange visits in which pairs of leaders from one group were funded to make short visits to other groups in the network. Twelve training meetings a year were held, and groups were invited to make at least six exchange visits and receive at least six visits. During 2007, Tawosu attended 9 meetings, made 5 exchange visits, and received 3 exchange visits. Combined with the CCAT score, this placed the group's 'ranking' in the network at 24, where 1 indicates the most participative and 28 the least. __________________________________________ Current grant status Tai Women Support Group (Tawosu) received grants in 2006-7. At the end of 2007, Tawosu's CCAT self-assessment raised concerns, as did its irregular participation in network meetings and exchange visits. A quarterly grant was offered for 2008; only one instalment was taken up.
